Drink for gut health

Billie Lerch

For many years, herbs have been brewed and used to help health issues including digestive problems. Which tea is your favourite one?

I used to dislike chamomile because my mum always gave it to me when I was unwell but now I love the relaxed feelings it gives me at night.

My favourite though is a mixture of fennel seeds, anise seeds and caraway seeds which tastes a bit like licorice (thanks to the anise seeds) and sooths my tummy. Actually, the first time I used this tea was during breastfeeding to increase my milk production. Now thankfully I only use it for taste and comfort.

But apart from soothing your tummy, this tea can offer more:

Fennel - antixodant, antimicrobial, antiviral and anti-inflammatory. Some studies even suggest that fennel can suppress appetite.

Anise - hormone balancing (esp. menopause), antifungal and blood sugar regulating

Caraway - antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, may aid weight loss

Directions:

=> Get some organic seeds from a health food shop or online. Make sure that they are

organic as you don't want to drink any chemicals

=> Mix the seeds and keep them in an airtight glass container

=> For each cup, take one teaspoon of the mixed seeds and pour boiling water over

them and steep for about 5 minutes

=> Remove the seeds and enjoy!
